As an xmas treat to myself, i thought I would go and get myself a Droboshare to complement my Drobo 2nd gen, which after a bit of teething problems has proven to be a worthy and wonderful invention.
The Droboshare exists to allows the Drobo to be seen on a network, yay and triple yay.
Well no not really, for a start Droboshare doesn't work out of the box with Time Machine and more importantly Droboshare only allows one shared volume.
So to put that into BLOCK CAPS.
DROBOSHARE DOESN'T WORK EASILY WITH TIME MACHINE
DROBOSHARE ONLY ALLOWS ONE MOUNTED SHARE
DROBOSHARE COSTS £170 AND DOES BUGGER ALL FOR THE NORMAL HOME USER
So I am busily trying to cancel my droboshare order, and upgrade my airport extreme to one with gigabit ethernet, as I have found that i can just hook my drobo into my airport extreme and I get all my shares and Time Machine works great switching from N wifi to wired ethernet and back.
The only downside is that I lose firewire 800 speed and am down to USB 2, but since the droboshare used usb2 anyway, I have a better system which all my macs can see and I get keep £170 in my pocket (well until I find something else to spend it on)
